Success is our own responsibility.

When I got out of high school I chose to stay home and attend the local community college to get my Associate’s degree. At one point, I held three part time jobs at the same time while going to school. No it wasn’t easy and yes I was tired most of that time, but I did what I had to do to get what I wanted. It’s always that way in life. We do what we have to, to get what we want. Those jobs that I held were not my dream jobs. I also knew that I didn’t have to do those jobs my entire life. I just had to do them long enough to get where I wanted to be.

Instead of thinking short term, we need to be planning long term in our decisions. What do we have to do short term to achieve our long term goals? This is called taking responsibility for ourselves. It all starts with us. Our attitudes, drive, goals, decisions, and personal choices are all our own responsibility. At some point we have to cut the cord from relying on others for our own success. We will only succeed when we choose to do so in our own minds. This is not done by telling others what we are going to do, but by showing it through our actions.

This week make it a goal to write down what you want in life, then break that down into actionable steps to achieve those goals. I would love to help you get started. Email me at jenny@jenniferhester.com to get you on your way. Go out today and show everyone how AWESOME you truly are!!!

Is worry stealing your success?

When you wake up in the morning, what are the first thoughts that go through your mind? Are you being thankful for the day or are you starting to think about all the things that need to be accomplished? The habits that we create are going to create a path of success or lead to a life of status quo.

The need for new habits

When we wake up in the morning and we allow our mind to be filled with the worries of the day, the week, or even the month, we are setting ourselves up for failure. Worrying is a habit that we have allowed ourselves to create over time. Worrying is stealing our time and future. The very first thing we should do when we wake up in the morning is think of 3 things that we are grateful for in our life. This will get our mindset on the positives in life instead of the negatives.

Create new habits

Instead of worrying, we should be spending this time learning or creating. Don’t sit and worry about things that you cannot control, this is a waste of our valuable time. Let’s make new habits. The next time thoughts start to creep into your mind that are going to try and steal your time, kick them out by listening to a podcast that is creative and positive.

If you are not a podcast listener, then pick up a good book, or go for a walk. While you are walking pay attention to the trees and birds. Try to notice your surroundings, this is called being mindful. It’s about being in the here and now. Spend this time thinking of creative ways you could increase your learning. Take a college course, sign up for a yoga class, learn about meditation, do something that will stimulate your mind and take your mind off the worry.

Worry is a self-defeating habit. If you must worry then set a clock and allow yourself 15 minutes to worry, then stop and get on with your day. If we are to be successful and become everything God designed us to be, we are going to have to quit worrying and make other more productive items our priorities.

Instead of worrying, go out today and share how AWESOME you are with the world. Be an example to others of what a worry free (at least worry less) life looks life.

Why increase your knowledge?

Knowledge changes things. When you begin to learn and open your mind to new ideas you will never be able to go back to the way you use to think. The new knowledge will change old perceptions. As your perceptions begin to change, you change with them. This is a good thing. We are meant to grow and learn. Life was never meant for us to get into one mindset and stay there, although some people do.

This week I listened to Jim Rohn, who is a very successful entrepreneur. Mr. Rohn shared his message with thousands of people over the years about how he became so successful. One of the key strategies he shares is to increase your knowledge. Read, listen to audiobooks, and learn from others who are doing what you want to do. Increase your knowledge every way you can.

It’s not about increasing you knowledge in just one area, but all areas. Those areas are mind, body, spirit, finances, and relationships. As you increase your knowledge in these areas, you will make positive changes in your life. As you learn about finances you will begin to make wise decisions about spending and investing. As you increase your knowledge about your body, you will want to know what you’re putting into your body. You will want to know what’s in those processed foods and you will begin to skip them and choose healthy food alternatives. The same will go with every aspect of your life.

If you don’t like to read then search the internet for podcasts. There are podcasts on anything you want to learn about these days. One way to start the habit is to commit to listening to one podcast a day or even start with one a week. Start small and increase your listening time a little every month. You are going to love what this does for your mindset. Start this week and don’t put it off. This is an easy way to begin to Invite Excellence into your Life. Go out and share your AWESOME with the world.
