How bad does it have to hurt?

There is a great story I heard one time. It’s about two old men sitting on a front porch along with one of their old dogs. Everyone once in a while when the old dog would move it would whimper and whine. After a while, the one old man asked the other, “Why does your dog whimper and whine like that?” The old man told him, “He’s laying on a nail.” The other old man asked, “Why doesn’t he move?” The old man replied, “I guess it don’t hurt bad enough.”

Is this where you are in life? Your life is not what it could be, but it isn’t bad enough for you to do anything about it. How much does it have to hurt for you to do something about it? How many of us go through life everyday like that old dog? We whimper and whine, but we don’t get off that nail. We simply tolerate the discomfort of having a job that’s good enough. Of living a life where we know we are not reaching our full potential.

Why do we do that? It’s those little voices in your head whenever you think about your dreams. They tell you that you’re not good enough, that you’re too old or too young. They say that you don’t have what it takes or that you’re not qualified. Those little voices are holding you back from having the life that you were put here to have. Stop and think about that for a minute. Are you going to let voices in your head be the difference between living your dream and just existing?

This week take control of those little demons. Bust them up and kick them out of your thoughts. You can overcome those thoughts. Start today by filling your mind with only constructive, productive, self empowering, positive thoughts. Start TODAY!!!

Don’t let your thoughts drive your life down the wrong road.

In Rick Warren’s book the Purpose Driven Life, the very first sentence in his book says, “It’s not about you.” In the grand scheme of life that is true, there is a much larger picture to be looked at, but if you want to make changes in your life it has to start with YOU. Everything in your life starts with you. And where does everything start? In your thoughts.

Your thoughts control everything in your life. Your emotions are controlled by your thoughts. What you are going to do today is controlled by your thoughts. You make the decision what you are going to do based on the thoughts in your mind. You can decide to lay on the couch or get out and do something fun or go exercise or go chat with the neighbor or be productive or read a great book. Whatever you do, you have to think it first. So what are your thoughts telling you to do today? Are you thinking productive encouraging thoughts or are they self-defeating negative thoughts? Whatever you’re thinking, those thoughts are  going to drive your direction today and everyday for the rest of your life. So where are your thoughts driving you to today? Success, happiness, fulfillment, or mediocrity, worry, and negativity. The choice is yours and it all begins with what you think.

Life changing lesson.

Several years ago I learned a life changing lesson. It is one that has reshaped and redefined my thought process. I have more peace, confidence, courage, and optimism than I have ever had in my life. You can have that also by utilizing one simple lesson. That lesson is that you don’t have to think every thought that comes into your mind. Your thoughts are shaped from your past events. One of my favorite quotes is from the late great Zig Ziglar, “You are who you are and what you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change who you are and what you are by changing what goes into your mind”. Wow, that blew me away because I had never thought of it like that. You can change your life simply by changing what goes into your mind.

Let’s think about that for a minute. What do you put into your mind? When was the last time you watched a reality TV show? What kind of thoughts did that leave in your mind? What about watching a scary movie? After seeing these things did you think about them anymore? Sure you did. You mind is like a burnable CD. You are constantly loading it with new info and this information is replayed over and over again in your mind. That is the exact reason I don’t watch scary movies anymore, I got tired of sleeping with the lights on. If you want to change your life, then change what you are thinking, by changing what you put into your mind. To do this you will have to form new habits, but don’t get all excited,  you don’t have to do this overnight.

Make a commitment to change one thing at a time. Start slow and gradually work your way into an entire new outlook on life. Do you have time on your drive to work to listen to the radio? If so, buy some CD’s to listen to. I love “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale or “See You At The Top” by Zig Ziglar. If you would prefer to watch videos, you can check out Brendon Burchard  or Anthony Robbins on YouTube. Your local library will have these in book form and some may have the audio CD’s. Whatever your preference, don’t let your thoughts hold you back from going forward. Your thoughts are just thoughts. Don’t let them control you. You can overcome whatever you are struggling with in life by learning how to change your thoughts. This will impact every aspect of your life. If you want to be a better spouse, parent, friend, employee, sibling, dancer (just kidding on the dancer thing) then you can make a change for the better. Think about that, you can change your entire life by choosing today to change what you put into your mind. I look forward to sharing more with you on life changing ideas that will help you to become everything you desire to be in life.
