Listen to me with your eyes

Twice this week I have heard a parent say that their child told them to stop working and listen to them with their eyes. Wow!!! This touched me on so many levels as I know I am guilty of this. My child will be talking to me and I will be listening while scrolling through my phone. There is nothing on my phone more important than a few minutes with my child.

When we listen to our children, we should be making eye contact with them. Eye contact is one of the most powerful ways to say, I’m listening to you and you matter. We don’t just affect our children with our words, but eye contact and body language send strong signals as well.

Our children are with us for only a short time. We all need to be reminded to stop and take time to share with them not just our presence, but our full attention. We can make a wonderful positive impact on them by letting them know that they matter enough to put our phones down and look at them in those beautiful eyes.

Our challenge this week is to listen to our children with our eyes.

Always remember, We are much more than we allow ourselves to be. Allow yourself to be AWESOME.

I almost gave up on my dream

For the past few weeks I have been battling negative thoughts, self-doubt and self-limiting beliefs. It even got to the point to where I was ready to walk away from my purpose and passion. One thing I realized is that even though I read a lot of encouraging material sometimes I need the spoken word in my life. I need to hear someone speak to my heart with motivation and reassurance of God’s word that we all have a purpose to be filled.

So I went back to what I knew to be true and that is that we need daily motivation. Zig Ziglar says that motivation is like taking a bath, we need it every day. To help me get refocused and get out of this funk I started listening to inspirational radio. I listen to Joyce Meyers and Joel Osteen because I believe they are both motivational ministers. I also got refocused on why I started this in the first place, to help others.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick and that is where I was starting to head. I could tell my body and mind were not in a healthy state.

I began to pray and then thank God for clarity, vision, determination, and drive to get me refocused on my purpose. It is so easy to get sidetracked in what I am supposed to be doing. Some days I want to chase every butterfly that comes by and then I get lost.

Today I want to be thankful for getting back on track, for sending people into my life that can get me refocused, and for having a God who never stops sending the right people at the right time.

There are days I want to walk away because it can be hard and lonely pursuing what God has put in our hearts to accomplish. A dear friend of mine told me very point blank that if God lays a purpose on our hearts then who are we to deprive the world of those blessings. Certainly not I. Every once in a while we need our friends to give it to us straight. Well she did and I am thankful for it.

If you are struggling with your goals and focus I would love to reach out to help you get refocused. I am here even if you just need an accountability partner. I know how easy it is to get distracted and discouraged. Keep digging and climbing. There are better days ahead.

The resistance of this world is here to stop us from reaching our goals but we are stronger than the resistance when we reach out for the right kind of help. Shoot me an email and let’s talk about what kind of struggles you are having.

Go out and show the world how AWESOME you are today and make a difference in someone’s life.

Live a warrior life!

There are some days that I feel like I can take on the world, then there are other days when I just want to pull the covers back up over my head. When I wake up in the morning, more times than not, the negativity begins. The overwhelming list of to do’s, should have’s, and you’re not good enough’s start in. If I go a few days and don’t feed my mind the right things it will be a full out uphill battle to kick the negativity, but if I stay on top of my daily routines then the battle is much easier. What I continually feed my mind will automatically start to surface.

If I allow the outside world to determine my thoughts and emotions, I know what kind of day I’m going to have. A negative beat myself up day. When I start off right away being thankful for all that I have, before my feet ever hit the floor, then I get ahead in the battle for my mind.

Once my thankfulness is in order, I get my coffee, grab my books, and dive into battle mode. Directing my thoughts to higher things takes me away from the negative. Yes, I am aware that I’m not perfect, but I am persistent in my pursuit of being my best self. Yes, I am aware that I am not the highest educated person around, but I read daily to increase my knowledge. I long to be in warrior mode because I have lived the majority of my life in coward mode. For me, warrior mode is far superior because I am not hiding anymore. I love this authentic life. I want you to love your authentic life.

This week, wake up every day and prepare for warrior mode. Feed your mind, body and spirit the warrior meal plan. Get excited about being you!! Don’t live the status quo life. Throw off the inhibitions and let your beautiful life shine for others. Not sure where to start? Shoot me an email via the contact page and let’s get a plan started for you!!! Peace and success!!

One word that is increasing my awareness exponentially.

There is one word that I have been using lately to increase my self-awareness. It has been the best tool that I have found to take me to that next level. That word is “why”. I have begun to use this word every day. When I become emotional or troubled by something, I take a minute and ask myself why I feel this way. This one word has helped me to see that I have been tying my happiness to my husband’s actions. I have also discovered that I allow fear to control some of my actions as well. It makes me more accountable to my own actions. Instead of just blaming someone else for the situation, I take an honest look at why I am acting the way I am.

I’ve also noticed that I want others around me to make everything okay. I believe this is that inner child still wanting to be nurtured. I want this to help me reach a better maturity level and understanding that I am perfectly competent to take care of myself. It has actually been fun to get a peek into my inner workings on such a deep level and it explains so much.

For the next week I would love it if you tried this same tool. Ask yourself “why” when you feel angry, anxious, aggravated, lonely, or scared. I would love to hear what you discover about yourself. Please share your new awareness with me at jenny@jenniferhester.com. Remember, we are beautifully and wonderfully made. Have an AWESOME week.

Learning shouldn’t stop with the diploma.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. – Henry Ford

Besides being put on this earth to accomplish our purpose and enjoy our passions, we are here to continually learn and grow. Taking time out of your day to learn about your passions is a good thing. We all need balance in our life, so remember to include this time in your day as well.

Learning to increase our knowledge of something positive that will help us or those around us should be considered constructive selfishness. Learning and growing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually are the absolute greatest gifts you can give to yourself and your loved ones. Why? Because as you grow and become more mature in each of these areas you will find who you really are. This allows us to become our best self. Being our best self creates happiness within that will then overflow into our relationships.

Life is about relationships. We do not show love to others if we are not happy ourselves. When we are happy with who we are, we help others see that it’s okay to be who they are. So spend some time being constructively selfish. As you become your best through new knowledge and wisdom, you will reflect that in all of your interactions with others.

Action step: Give yourself permission to be selfish today, so you can be your best tomorrow. Not sure where to start? Shoot me an email and we can discuss a plan: jenny@jenniferhester.com

Success is our own responsibility.

When I got out of high school I chose to stay home and attend the local community college to get my Associate’s degree. At one point, I held three part time jobs at the same time while going to school. No it wasn’t easy and yes I was tired most of that time, but I did what I had to do to get what I wanted. It’s always that way in life. We do what we have to, to get what we want. Those jobs that I held were not my dream jobs. I also knew that I didn’t have to do those jobs my entire life. I just had to do them long enough to get where I wanted to be.

Instead of thinking short term, we need to be planning long term in our decisions. What do we have to do short term to achieve our long term goals? This is called taking responsibility for ourselves. It all starts with us. Our attitudes, drive, goals, decisions, and personal choices are all our own responsibility. At some point we have to cut the cord from relying on others for our own success. We will only succeed when we choose to do so in our own minds. This is not done by telling others what we are going to do, but by showing it through our actions.

This week make it a goal to write down what you want in life, then break that down into actionable steps to achieve those goals. I would love to help you get started. Email me at jenny@jenniferhester.com to get you on your way. Go out today and show everyone how AWESOME you truly are!!!

Break the bad habit of worry!!!

www.jenniferhester.com

www.jenniferhester.com

Being happy is a choice. We can choose to worry about things we cannot control or we can choose to let them go. Worrying about tomorrow and what it might bring is a waste of time and is a happiness stealer. Matthew 6:34 tells us “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. Many will say this is easier said than done and I agree, but worrying is a bad habit.

Breaking bad habits will take some work, but it’s worth it. Understand this is a bad habit and we are in the process of changing the bad into good. We can choose every day to get up and be thankful for all we have. I have made this a habit in my life. Before I get out of bed, I thank God for all the many wonderful blessings that are in my life.

I have found that the morning is also a time when I seem to be bombarded by worries and thoughts of negativity. I have to ask myself, “Is this something that I can do something about or not?” If not, I have to give it to God and let it go. If I can do something about it, then I need to be proactive. I need to first pray for guidance, then get busy working through the issues.

This process frees my mind to be happy. Let go of the junk and hang on to the good. I understand that happiness typically depends on my circumstances while true joy depends on another level of understanding and relationship with our higher power. Today I choose to be happy, but I will also continue to seek joy from my higher power.

“I will make this day a happy one, for I alone can determine what kind of a day it will be.” ~Anonymous

Tomorrow when you wake up and your mind takes off with all the worries of today or past regrets of yesterday, stop your mind. Literally tell it to stop. Redirect your thoughts to thanking God for all of your blessings. Yes you have many blessings in your life if you stop and look for them. Just look around, you can find many others who are suffering more than you. Count your blessings, be thankful for them and then give your struggles over to God. Just for this day let him worry about them while you enjoy the day.

Go out and share your happiness today!!!
