Think about what you’re thinking about.

Did you know that the #1 prescribed medication in the United States in anti-depressants? If you did know that did you ever give any thought as to why? I have a theory on this. We were not made for this information overload that we are living in today. When you get up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? Start making a mental list of everything you have to do? Turn on the TV? Check your email? See what’s happening on Facebook? As you go through the day, does any of this change? Most likely it doesn’t change. It is a continual feed of social media telling you what you should say, feel, and do with you day. You can’t get away from it. They even have TV’s at the doctor’s offices and not just in the waiting rooms, but in the exam rooms too. Our minds need downtime. Many of the prescription medications that are taken today could be avoided if people allowed time to really look at themselves and be honest with what they see. I am not suggesting in any way, shape, or form to stop taking any medication you are on, that should only be done with your doctor’s permission. This sounds crazy, but have you ever stopped to think about what you’re thinking about? You need to see what is causing the anxiety and depression in your life. You can only do this when you take a look inside and see what makes you tick. What has you so off track and what needs to be done to get you back on track. Happiness comes from within and if you don’t know what makes you happy, how are you going to fix the problem? Do yourself a favor and take some downtime from the social media of today. Look inside and see what’s going on in there. If you need ideas on how to find some quiet time, check out Andy Traub’s book, Early to Rise. Invest in yourself for a change, you’ll be glad you did.

Life changing lesson.

Several years ago I learned a life changing lesson. It is one that has reshaped and redefined my thought process. I have more peace, confidence, courage, and optimism than I have ever had in my life. You can have that also by utilizing one simple lesson. That lesson is that you don’t have to think every thought that comes into your mind. Your thoughts are shaped from your past events. One of my favorite quotes is from the late great Zig Ziglar, “You are who you are and what you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change who you are and what you are by changing what goes into your mind”. Wow, that blew me away because I had never thought of it like that. You can change your life simply by changing what goes into your mind.

Let’s think about that for a minute. What do you put into your mind? When was the last time you watched a reality TV show? What kind of thoughts did that leave in your mind? What about watching a scary movie? After seeing these things did you think about them anymore? Sure you did. You mind is like a burnable CD. You are constantly loading it with new info and this information is replayed over and over again in your mind. That is the exact reason I don’t watch scary movies anymore, I got tired of sleeping with the lights on. If you want to change your life, then change what you are thinking, by changing what you put into your mind. To do this you will have to form new habits, but don’t get all excited,  you don’t have to do this overnight.

Make a commitment to change one thing at a time. Start slow and gradually work your way into an entire new outlook on life. Do you have time on your drive to work to listen to the radio? If so, buy some CD’s to listen to. I love “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale or “See You At The Top” by Zig Ziglar. If you would prefer to watch videos, you can check out Brendon Burchard  or Anthony Robbins on YouTube. Your local library will have these in book form and some may have the audio CD’s. Whatever your preference, don’t let your thoughts hold you back from going forward. Your thoughts are just thoughts. Don’t let them control you. You can overcome whatever you are struggling with in life by learning how to change your thoughts. This will impact every aspect of your life. If you want to be a better spouse, parent, friend, employee, sibling, dancer (just kidding on the dancer thing) then you can make a change for the better. Think about that, you can change your entire life by choosing today to change what you put into your mind. I look forward to sharing more with you on life changing ideas that will help you to become everything you desire to be in life.
