Are your thoughts making you sick?

In a recent article by Mayo Clinic, they described the unexplainable, yet very real health benefits shared by those with a positive outlook.

Those health benefits included:

Increased life span

Lower rates of depression

Lower levels of distress

Greater resistance to the common cold

Better psychological and physical well-being

Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease

Better coping skills during hardships and times of stress

They say it’s unexplainable, but I have my own theory. Try this short exercise. Close your eyes and go to your favorite get away. Maybe it’s the beach, or a quiet sunset, or a walk in the woods. Feel the calm and relaxed state of mind that you are in. It’s amazingly peaceful. Your heart rate slows, the tension goes out of your muscles.

Now, think about something that is causing you great anxiety. A problem you can’t seem to conquer. Whether it’s work, family, or financial it doesn’t matter. What just happened to your body physically? Your heart rate took off. Your muscles became tense. Your blood pressure went up.

Know which of these scenarios is best for your body to live in? The relaxed state of course. A body that is in constant turmoil will wear itself out prematurely.  Take action steps this week to begin your journey of positive thinking and improved health.

When you open your eyes in the morning thank God for the day and inform the universe that it is going to be a great day. Say this several times before you get out of bed, “Dear God thank you for this day. Today is going to be a great day.” You will find that your day starts out smoother and your mind will be more apt to remain calm.

Come back and leave me a comment on how this helped start your day.
