I greatly admired Nelson Mandela and was saddened by his passing. I thought to myself what a great leader and role model we’ve just lost. I sat and watched some of the tributes to him, in particularly the interview that he did with Oprah back in 2000. I was surprised by his comment that had he not been imprisoned, he would not have been able to achieve the most difficult task in life and that is changing yourself. He said the time that he spent in prison allowed him to sit down and think. He shared that he was in there with other great men and they spent time sharing their views. What remarkable honesty and insight.
“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”
Mr. Mandela will be missed by millions. He was a man whose life was forever changed because he was wise enough to see the miracle that could be obtained by sitting down and thinking.
